Hey there. Happy MLK Day! How was your weekend? Today I’m going to share my go-to drugstore products. Full disclosure: I’m a total product junkie! I love trying new products – hair products, makeup, skincare – all of it. So it takes a really good product for me to repeat buy.
True story: when J and I started dating, I was living in a studio in the North End (read: I didn’t have a lot of space), but I had an entire counter in my bathroom dedicated to just to my products. Well, it must’ve looked overwhelming because one day he asked me with a straight face what I looked like without all of that on! Um, an absolute troll?!
The funny part is that I don’t actually wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis, but I love buying and trying new products. And while I love Sephora and Ulta, I mostly buy my stuff at the drugstore.
Here are some of my favorite tried and true drugstore finds:
Baths seem to be one of those polarizing things – either you love them or hate them. I’m a bath person. And I love adding Dr. Teal’s Espsom Salt to a bath. It’s my favorite way to de-stress. Epsom salts supposedly relieve muscle tension and pain in addition to other benefits. Dr. Teal’s has scented versions with essential oils if that’s your thing, but I enjoy just straight up epsom salt.
This is a holy grail product for me! I swear by dry shampoo. It allows you to go an extra day (or two if you’re lucky) without washing your hair and it gives you loads of volume. Dry shampoo can be a tricky little beast though for brunettes. Most dry shampoos are white powder which doesn’t blend easily into dark hair. Enter, Batiste. They make a deep and dark brown version that I love. It matches my hair color, while soaking up grease and giving me extra volume.
This is an great $4 dupe for the Nars bronzer/blush compacts. It’s so good. They make several shades, but my current favorite is Fiji-matte. I’ve also tried the St. Lucia compact. That one has a bit of a shimmer to it. Both shades worked for me, but the Fiji is more pigmented.
I started using brow mascara about a year ago and now I can’t live without it. It’s one of those things that’s very subtle and probably goes unnoticed to others, but I see the difference instantly. On nights out, I’ll also fill my brows in, but for day-to-day, I just use a swipe or two of this and I feel instantly polished.
And, a new-to-me product that I just discovered this week:
The weather in Boston has gone from the single digits to the 50s and windy and my lips are SO dry. I picked this product up on a whim and after one swipe, my lips are instantly back to normal. This will be in my wallet for the next three months. If you live somewhere cold, go buy this immediately! It’s basically a sugar scrub in a lipstick tube.
So what are your favorite drugstore products? I love getting new recommendations. Do you swear by any of the same ones as me?
