What To Wear To A Winter Wedding

What To Wear To A Winter Wedding

This has been a big wedding year for me. I’ve already been to two weddings this fall and I have a third coming up later this month. Winter weddings can be especially hard to dress for as you’ve got to account for style and warmth, but they can also be really romantic. They allow you to wear more interesting textures like fur and velvet. Or sequins! I’ve ordered a sequins shift from Rent the Runway for this next wedding. Has anyone had any success with Rent the Runway? I tried them once before, but the dress was WAY too small when it arrived. So this time, I tried to keep in mind that designer sizes tend to run small (and that I’ve spent the last month indulging in too many Christmas cookies and all the wine!)

The one drawback to RTR is that you don’t know until a day or two before your event if the dress you selected will fit/look good. So I like to have some back up options ready to go.  I have two backup dresses just in case – a classic Ralph Lauren black sheath and a fun, short red dress with bell sleeves by Charles Henry.

I’ve put the three different looks together below. Which is your favorite? For outerwear, I’ll be wearing a black, boiled wool military jacket (with gold buttons!!) and a fur stole. A fur stole is a great accessory to have for the handful of dressy events you get invited to in the winter. It really ups the style factor on a cold weather outfit. I got mine on major sale at Nordstrom after Christmas last year. I only paid $13!! So I don’t feel guilty that I only wear it a few times a year. The other 87 days of winter I’m in a giant parka.
